Love Letters By Katie Fforde

At twenty-six, Laura Horsley is a hopeless romantic and still a virgin, saving herself for Mr. Right. She lives her life through her passion for books, working in a bookshop by day and reading in her spare time. However, when the bookshop that has been her haven since leaving university closes, Laura is forced to step outside her comfort zone. In a rare moment of recklessness, she agrees to help organise a literary festival, and in so doing, faces the near impossible task of coaxing the notoriously reclusive writer Dermot Flynn out of hiding to be the star attraction. Laura has idolised Dermot since her university days, and he is every bit as gorgeous as his photos. Moreover, he seems intent on adding Laura to his long list of conquests.
Love Letters has become my new favourite of Katie Fforde’s novels, displacing Thyme Out from the top spot. This has a lot to do, I think, with the fact that I’m a shy bookworm myself and so was able to relate to Laura above any of Katie’s other heroines. Watching as she steadily grew in confidence throughout the story, rooting for her to finally find love with Dermot, was a sheer joy. After all, most of us fantasise about meeting our idol, whether he be an actor or a member of a heavy metal band, but very few of us will ever actually get the chance.
With some lively characters, witty dialogue and Katie’s trademark warmth, this book is guaranteed to delight any hopeless romantic.
